Charitable Chariots
Program & Fundraiser
Charitable Chariots at Northwest Iowa Community
College and the Iowa Automotive Recyclers (IAR)
have partnered in sponsoring a vehicle.
Steven
Youngs, Collision Instructor from Northwest Iowa
Community College in Sheldon, Iowa (712-324-5061
)
has developed a learning pro-
gram called
Charitable Chariots
. In the program stu-
dents at NCC refurbish a donated vehicle with used
auto parts as a training tool. The vehicle is then do-
nated to a recipient in need of transportation.
Professor Youngs works
with a social service
agency to locate a re-
cipient. Then the Media
Show begins. NCC
really does it up big for
the giveaway. The plan
for this vehicle is to do-
nate it at the Iowa Auto
Recyclers Summer Out-
ing June 13-14, 2104 in
Carroll.
Charitable Chariots pro-
gram is working on sev-
eral vehicles on right
now. The parts were
donated by Pat’s Auto
Salvage in Waterloo,
Iowa!
Thanks Pat
Rooff!
Chariots hopes to give
away a Venture Van,
Plymouth Breeze, and
the Buick Le Sabre in
May, and bring this
Durango to the 2014 Summer Outing!
Youngs and Charitable Chariots students also have a
pet project they are working on and hope to unveil at
the summer outing too; a 2001 Honda Civic that is
being refurbished as the Chariots promotional vehicle.
The Pre-Inspection sheet is used to evaluate the vehi-
cle and provide service to every car as a maintenance
update. This has an average cost per vehicle of
$1100. Each car is then evaluated for additional
needs and the information is added to the Pre-
Inspection sheet for parts acquisition.
The basic service package will be supported by the
Bootlegger’s Bus Tour event at the IAR Summer Out-
ing, June 14, 2014 in Carroll, Iowa.
To “sponsor” the event
contact Sue Schauls,
IAR Executive Director,
at 319-290-7843 or
or send a check to IAR,
2214 Regal Avenue,
Waterloo, Iowa 50702 –
no donations will be
turned away!
The partnership be-
tween IAR and Charita-
ble Chariots will con-
tinue to grow.
Steven
does an incredible job
finding the vehicles to
rehabilitate and with
continued parts dona-
tions/support from IAR
Members this worthy pro-
gram makes a huge im-
pact on the lives of the
recipients, the community
and the students who
take pride in their work
using used auto parts!
