Iowa Automotive Recyclers Summer Outing
June 13-14, 2014
Meet the Vendors
Overbuilt, Inc. was started in the family garage in
1991 by Scott Rink and his father, Richard. They were
a job shop doing various rebuilds and repairs of heavy
equipment when they first started out. The original
manufacturing facility of just 7200 square feet was
erected in 1992. Since then an additional 63,750
square feet has been added to the sight including a
complete hydraulic and cylinder assembly shop. The
recycling equipment business started with the request
of a couple of different scrap yard owners to build
them a car crusher that was larger and faster than
what was currently available on the market. It took
almost a year working in their spare time and when
money allowed and in 1996 they turned out the first
High Speed OverBuilt Car Crusher.
When customers saw a vertical opening that was 2'
larger than anything on the market and a crushing
deck that moved 4 times faster, it was just a matter of
time before sales took off. The patented High Speed
Oil Bypass System has helped make the OverBuilt
Car Crusher the fastest selling crusher in the market
saving OverBuilt customers time and fuel. With each
new crusher rolling off the assembly line they listened
even more intently to improvements the end user was
wanting in their machines. Two more additions to the
product came quickly with the
introduction of a 400 gallon on-board waste fluid re-
covery system and the largest fuel cell available in
the industry at 400 gallons. The latter allows their cus-
tomers to fuel other yard equipment right off the
crusher with an optional lockable, auxiliary fuel pump.
All of this was done using existing space already en-
closed in the structure of the crushers. While they,
along with most companies, offer hydraulic landing
gear allowing the customer to set up in virtually no
time at all, only OverBuilt crushers come with safety
lid locks that can be activated from the ground by the
operator. The biggest change they have seen in the
market is the movement from crushers to baler log-
gers. They expect baler sales to take over crushers in
the next few years. Again, they listened to what the
operators in the scrap and salvage business wanted
and in 2008 introduced the OverBuilt Baler Logger.
“We only make one size and it is big enough and
powerful enough to handle any job in the industry”
said Scott Rink, owner.
A big change the recession has brought on is the
length of time customers keep their equipment. Cus-
tomers who consistently traded every 2 or 3 years are
now waiting longer. OverBuilt has answered the need
consistently with high quality, long lasting machines
that literally are OverBuilt to last. “We have also seen
a lot of our smaller customers selling out to larger cor-
porations’ Scott told us. “While we are sorry to see
them go we know that this is a natural progression in
any industry.” Overbuilt prides itself in parts availabil-
ity and service after the sale. Keeping the customer
up and running for the life of the machine is second
only to building the highest quality product to begin
with. Contact Jeff or Steve today @ 1-800-548-6469
