Committee Reports
Legislative Update – Sue is expecting a Harmari re-
port by the end of May about data collected by the
DOT in regard to some cases they are working on.
Mike S. said he is beginning to get data back from the
Department of Justice on NMVTIS reporting. Accord-
ing to his information, only 25% of cars sold at sal-
vage are being reported by salvage yards, a very low
percentage.
We have two issues with Department of Revenue in
regard to recyclers: 1) The new form for taxing re-
builders using NADA value vs receipt 2) collecting tax
at auctions with public buyers.
PAC – Jim advised to wait on making any donations
to see what will happen following the close of the ses-
sion. He will put together a potential list of recom-
mended donation recipients and the board can act on
those as they come to our attention.
Scholarship – Jodi has sent letters to the 4 scholar-
ship recipients inviting them to attend the Summer
Outing but has not received any responses at this
time. Jodi will call them and invite them again this
coming week.
A Note from Tait Hines:
Sue called one day while
she was at a conference in Denver and tells me she
thinks her members may be having hardware issues
that are keeping them from making sales and getting
the best performance from the industry software! She
asked if I would help her as a hardware consultant/
vendor for auto salvage yards. Of course, I accepted
Sue's invitation (Who says NO to Sue?) but quickly
realized I have many things to learn about the auto-
motive salvage industry! But hey, I work for Open
Technologies, a Value Added Reseller ("VAR") with
relationships with many hardware and software com-
panies, so I’m the guy who CAN and Will figure it out.
Since the invitation, I have visited a couple of facili-
ties and I am just beginning to develop an under-
standing of the landscape and technology. I'm find-
ing that yards have typically a couple of servers, sev-
eral PCs and reliance on the internet. Open Tech-
nologies is beginning to develop solutions sets spe-
cific for used parts sales, but we are awhile away
from anything formal. I would love to speak to more
owners and discuss their current enjoinment, areas
of concern and thoughts about the future. Please
contact me to set up a time to discuss your technol-
ogy. Help me help you!

will be my 22nd year coaching football.
