exhibitors please turn to the
center fold of the newsletter..
I can not emphasize enough what super

help get the program together and then

conference to provide professional advice
and support on many technical
levels. Thank you—

Summer Outing 2013 Recap
The Iowa Automotive Recyclers Certification (I-
CARE) Program was established by the asso-
ciation to set a standard of excellence for auto-
motive recycling in Iowa. The certification pro-
gram is sponsored by the Iowa Automotive
Recyclers association.
The certification program has established stan-
dards in four categories that participating mem-
ber yards meet specific to general business
practices, environmental compliance and stew-
ardship, occupational
health and safety
practices and licens-
ing requirements. To-
gether these criteria
provide a basic frame-
work of expectations
by which member sal-
vage yards are
guided.
Certification distinguishes member of the Iowa
Automotive Recyclers association as profes-
sional recyclers adhering to the highest stan-
dards of excellence in the industry. Through
the I-CARE program most IAR members have
established a Safety Training Program, the
Safety Subscription is available to non-
members too. Other tools put in place to meet
the needs of the busy Salvage yard owner
have assisted members to easily attain and
maintain compliance with rules such as the
Storm Water Permit and the cumbersome
Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
(SWPPP) and the process of taking a storm
water sample with laboratory analysis.
The certification process is an intensive on-site
audit and documentation of the practices at
individual Iowa salvage yards. Salvage yards
must be members in good standing to become
certified. Certification is conducted by an inde-
pendent auditor, Sue Schauls, as approved by
the IAR Board.
This newsletter edition is dedicated to the I-
CARE program certifi-
cation as a guideline
to certification and a
tool to be used to at-
tain and maintain the
level of regulatory
compliance in envi-
ronmental manage-
ment and health &
safety practices befit-
ting a professional recycler. If you have any
questions on a particular standards or rule
please call Sue to discuss. Your inquiries and
problems discussed are confidential.
ARA CAR Program
The I-CARE Program has been reconciled with
the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA)
Certified Automotive Recycler (CAR) program.
