What’s in Store for Inspections?
EPA Will Maintain Enforcement Initiatives
Keep in mind that the state regulatory agencies are
bound by the same laws as the small business
owner. So when EPA says place an emphasis on
storm water pollutant, the states follow suit and in-
crease inspection frequencies in those regulated
industries, including auto recycling.
The same can be said for the state OSHA agencies.
The US OSHA recently announced the top ten vio-
lations of 2013. Not surprisingly, the list looks very
similar to the lists of the past several years.
What is
climbing the charts is of course the updated
Hazard Communication Standard, now at the
number two spot.
As with all new and updated regulation comes in-
creased inspection and awareness by both the in-
dustry and the inspectors. The good news with the
seven non-construction specific citations on the top
ten list is that any structured SAFETY PROGRAM
will encompass all these elements plus others more
germane to our industry hazards.
