71st Annual Convention Educational
Session Preview: The Impact of Tech-
nological Advancements in Vehicle
Manufacturing
ARA leadership continues to enhance the quality of
this annual event, assembling top-notch speakers and
focusing on the educational and training topics that
automotive recyclers, like YOU, have requested. One
such topic is the impact that technological advance-
ments in vehicle manufacturing will have on the indus-
try. The use of 3D printing for part design, prototypes,
tools and fixtures has implications for all aspects of
the professional automotive recycling industry. On
hear
from Jon Cobb, Executive Vice President for Corpo-
rate Affairs at Stratasys, a leading manufacturer of 3D
printers and 3D production systems for rapid prototyp-
ing and direct digital manufacturing solutions for the
automotive and other industries. Come learn about
how additive manufacturing and 3D printing are
changing the future of auto manufacturing and vehicle
design -- and what that means for the recycled parts

Recalls, Recalls........and More Recalls
Automakers seem to be plagued recently by an enor-
mous number of recalls - or is it extra caution that
they are using to report issues after the General Mo-
tors (GM) fallout over faulty ignition switches? As if
GM didn't have enough problems with its smaller car
ignition switch recall, now ignition switches may be
faulty in over a half million Cadillac CTS and SRX
crossover models from varying years. The switch can
be easily knocked out of the run position. While these
switches are not the same as those attributed to 13
deaths in the Cobalt and Ion cars, GM has told deal-
ers not to sell the Cadillacs in question. Three weeks
into this recall, GM has not yet found a solution. In
addition, in June GM issued six other recalls for a to-
tal of over 7 million vehicles.
The Chrysler Group LLC has also recently recalled
approximately 800,000 Jeep SUV's for their own
faulty ignition switches. This recall covers 2006-2007
Jeep Commanders and 2005 - 2007 Jeep Grand
Cherokee SUVs. This brings Chrysler's total number
of ignition switch recalled vehicles to nearly 1.7 million
since 2011. The faulty switch can easily fall out of the
run position, much like the GM problem.

Wendy Wilson
In October 2004, Wendy was diagnosed with breast
cancer and under-
went a lumpectomy,
followed by 6 chemo-
therapy and 34 radia-
tion treatments. The
lumpectomy was suc-
cessful, and her doc-
tors believed she was
in remission; in Au-
gust 2008, her left
arm started aching.
Wendy was with a group of friends and they decided
to ride a mechanical bull. She was thrown from the
bull and landed directly on her left shoulder. She
went to the doctor and an MRI showed that her breast
cancer had metastasized to bone cancer in her arm.
The cancer was not curable, but treatable. To this
day she thanks the mechanical bull.
ARA members have an opportunity to help Wendy
Wilson in her battle against cancer. On October 11,
2014, the
